I don’t know about you, but to me, every cent saved means that I can spend an extra cent during my holiday! And during this recent Gold Coast family holiday, I managed to save almost SGD 100 from some of my accommodation bookings and the kids got to eat a yummy ice cream every day… Sigh… all that sugar! (- -;)
How did I manage to save this 100 bucks?
I did it with a combination of ShopBack and Booking.com.
I book most of my holiday accommodation through Booking.com as they have a free cancellation policy which is especially useful for people like me who tweak the itinerary whenever I come across something more interesting. For the ones that are not available on Booking.com, I just have to book directly with the farm/ryokan etc.
ShopBack customers receive cash back on purchases that they make when shopping via the ShopBack app or website with shops that they partner. When I shop via ShopBack on the online shops, I usually receive only 1-2 cents rebate (it all adds up…). For my Gold Coast trip, I booked 3 of my accommodation via ShopBack with Booking.com. I knew that I would get some cash back, but never did I expect it to be as much as $100! I had a pleasant surprise when I received this in my email.

Wow! I was overjoyed! That comes up to about 5% of the total amount that I paid for.
How to do it?
You just need to sign up for an account with ShopBack. (Both of us get $5 each if you use my friend referral link. :))
Then install the browser extension so that if you go into a shop that is partnered with them, it will alert you to it. Then, just turn on ShopBack and buy as per normal. After that, you will receive an email, telling you how much cash back you get! QED!
I hope this little travel hack will help you save some money which you can then plough back into your trip to buy more stuff!
