As I wander with a knapsack on my back, I chalk up experiences that last a lifetime.

Day 1 Still!! Trip to Western Australia – Fremantle Market

Hahaha!! My Day 1 is never-ending! I guess I’m too much of a chatterbox and have too much to say. That’s why I have to split it into a few posts. *draws circles sheepishly on the ground with my toe*

And yes! We arrived at Fremantle Market very quickly. Nope.. we didn’t get lost, despite not having a GPS. That just proved my point! *V*

Here’s the map!

The biggest thing about Fremantle (my personal opinion only, you are of course entitled to yours) is the market! Although I have eaten nice but expensive seafood there on my previous trip there. It’s open on Mon, Fri-Sun. Compared to other markets which open only on the weekends, it’s pretty long working hours! But of course, it’s the main tourist draw.

It’s made up of the Hall and the Yard. It’s a little like our old wet markets (one of the last few remaining ones is probably the one at Marine Parade Central).  The Yard sells fresh produce and the Hall sells other “barang”! Except it’s more eclectic than what we have locally.  Perhaps it’s because I’m a tourist, so I find it more interesting.  I’m sure our foreign friends find the “yard” part of our markets quaint too. 🙂

It was drizzling when we reached Fremantle.  We had to bundle up 宝贝, before making a dash from the car to the Yard.

That’s me with Panda eyes and 宝贝 cheery because she has slept the whole night. In front of all that wholesome rows of fruits!!

Meanwhile, check out the HUGE ostrich eggs!!

Didn’t have the time to take photos of the Hall.. That happens when you bring a toddler along for a holiday, I correct myself, BOOT CAMP! Too busy chasing after her and no time for photo taking… sigh…

Hunger struck and we headed off to hunt for food.  We settled on the Fremantle Bakehouse because it was one of the crowded ones.  I have this theory – if it’s empty, the food must be lousy.  If it’s full of locals, then that’s the IN place to be!!

We ate *loti as expected.. But gourmet loti as it’s not cheap!! And 宝贝ate the fresh fruits we bought from the Yard.

A street performance after lunch. *burp* In case you are wondering what it’s about… The street performer invited a member from the audience to chain him up and he’d wriggle out of the chains.

*barang = stuff

loti = bread
